We work to save the last few gems that were and remain synonymous with Valletta - iconic gems that should be preserved and given every kind of support.
For the community to propose a Heritage Trail to the Government is an excellent way to preserve and promote precious cultural gems that have shaped our city's identity over the years. Here is a step-by-step guide on how we can do this:
1. Research and planning:
Cultural identification: a comprehensive list of local cultural sites, familiar places, and artefacts that are significant and at risk of being lost.
Historical significance: documentation of the historical and cultural significance of each site, including information about their history, cultural context, and any notable events associated with them.
2. Community support and engagement:
Involvement of the local community, cultural organisations, historians, and experts. This may include collecting signatures on a petition or letters of support from the community and from the families of these businesses.
3. Authorities
Local government officials, cultural authorities, and national heritage preservation agencies. With their help, a map can be created as a guideline linking these cultural sites. Accessibility, distance, and any natural features that public authorities can improve for the experience of all should be considered.
4. Tourism and economic impact:
The Heritage Trail would benefit the local economy through increased quality tourism and cultural awareness. This would guarantee that such precious and unique historical elements continue to thrive.
5. Advertising and incentives:
We insist that every authority, department, and event should be committed to advertising and creating special funds, such as perhaps start-up funds or even occasional voucher systems among locals and visitors to the locality, without the financial burden or sacrifice falling on these icons.
Entities of interest are always welcome, but we would like the main NGOs to be incorporated within the Local Council so that the UNESCO Title is fully approved and protected.
