Collective Proposals - Accommodation Centre, Shelter, Rehabilitation, Elderly Home: Various Proposals

Proposal by Independent Social Movement ResidentiBeltin – 10/01/2018-2024 © (Digital & Published Rights)

We were the first and we remain determined to deliver justice regarding Evans Building, but in case it remains unsolved from privatisation, many suggested that the Auberge de Baviere be designated as an Elderly Home.

Every proposed property remains in the possession of the Maltese public along with its services, so that expenses are kept to a minimum without third parties, where third-party expenses increase the burden on the system and patients. Instead of the 60%, we propose that only 50% of the pension be retained.

Proposal Number 1: The Auberge de Baviere

01) The Auberge's garages would serve as a space for emergency services such as the ambulance, thereby avoiding further delays for the elderly in case of serious emergencies or appointments. Furthermore, the ambulance would also be available for the service of residents and visitors in need.

02) With additional thought, for example, a dedicated Unit for the Fire Service and Civil Protection could be placed there in case of any other type of assistance needed for both Valletta and nearby areas.

03) The internal courtyard would serve as an ideal space for recreation and rehabilitation.

04) Behind the Auberge de Baviere there is a zone for walks, extensive space for Physiotherapy, as well as a garden where patients can enjoy themselves.

05) Two bus stops are already located on the same street as the Auberge. Ideal convenience for patients, their relatives and friends to visit them, and also for the patients themselves in case they are independent enough to get there.

06) The lower garage would serve for rescue services for foreign and local swimmers in the area, since many of us have been swimming in Marsamxett for years. Prevention is always better than cure; the Rescue Unit could save many lives in a short time, especially for swimmers such as our children and our elderly.

*Every proposal will be solidified and improved once the Council, under our leadership, convenes public meetings with residents. The Auberges take precedence over any Government Public Property, therefore they require the full consent of citizens and NGOs before being planned for any purpose.

Proposal Number 2: Casa Bolino - 116 West Street
